A garden must complement its setting. The Petersham House gardens are lucky to have the Thames, Petersham Meadows, Richmond Park and St Peters Church as a backdrop. With its existing huge Yew hedges and lovely red brick walls, Petersham House is an intriguing yet relaxed country garden.
At 150ft long the herbaceous border starts the year gently, gradually changing to what has best been described as a mad flowering hedgerow.
It is built around a loose structure of permanent planting including Romneya, Macleaya, Rheum, Eupatorium, Irises and Oriental poppies. The season is prolonged using early spring flowering bulbs, including Tulips and Alliums, and extended into late summer and Autumn using annuals and dahlias all of which will be available to buy in the nursery this spring and summer.
The garden of Petersham House will be open to the public on Sunday 4th July 2010 with the NGS. Click here for more information.
